Following last year’s introduction via ‘Never Sweeter’, Matilda Mann returns with ‘The Fucking Best’, which she describes as “the most petty song ever.” We can’t disagree there. Mann’s graceful voice leans into her role as observational outsider; this raspy commentary revealing the nineteen-year-olds insecurities. As she furhter explains, ‘The Fucking Best’ is “about people who Just seem to have it all together and are still nice people - they’re just the fucking best and everyone loves them. LOL. And it’s kind of wishing you were like that." These wishful thoughts and bitter feelings embed themselves in the jazzy percussion, lofi production, Latina rhythm and that delicious bass line.
